America’s public lands are a treasure, and many RVers are well aware of all they offer, including wonderful opportunities to camp far from the crowds, often for free or nearly free. "Adventures on America's Public Lands," published in 2003 by Smithsonian Books, is a terrific guidebook to a broad range of recreational activities on public lands administered by the US Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Everything a visitor needs to know about BLM lands is here, with maps, plenty of beautiful color photos and specific information about camping and campgrounds including locations, amenities and fees. When many RVers think of camping, they envision the kind of camping offered on America’s public lands — uncrowded campsites away from cities, with much to do nearby — hike, rockhound, explore canyons and rivers, fish. . . the list is endless. Oh, and in the BLM's desert campgrounds nighttime skies are filled with countless stars and a steller performance by the Milky Way.
Adventures on America's Public Lands is an expanded, updated edition of "Beyond the National Parks," the popular BLM recreation guide published in 1998. "Adventures On America’s Public Lands" is easy to use and includes: Nearly 200 color state and site maps, 231 color photos, 18 recreational activity overviews from "Getaways Close to Home" to adventure sports," favorite sites selected by BLM staff, comprehensive visitor information for each site including routes and fees, camping and lodging amenities, accessibility, special natural and/or cultural features, site activity lists and easy-to-spot icons representing 26 activities and features, complete BLM and other contact information for each site. This is a wonderful book for an RVer’s library. 494 pages.
